Hi Alex! UCC has been very good to me, and I’ve greatly enjoyed my time there. In terms of academia, I can only talk about the chemistry department, as that’s what I did my degree in, but there are some excellent teachers and enthusiastic demonstrators, and you get a broad overview of your topic. The one place I would fault it academically is that some of the labs are quite old, however, they’re in the process of getting funding to do them up, so hopefully they’ll have some very modern labs in the near future.

From a social point of view, UCC has a massive range of clubs and societies, covering pretty much every sport and subject that you can think of, from volleyball to karate to GAA and from Harry Potter to chemistry to choral singing, so there’s something for everyone to get involved in. I made a lot of friends during my time at college, most of whom I’m still very friendly with even though we’re all finished our course now.

In short, yes, I would definitely recommend UCC!
