Its hard to give a solid answer! It’s definitely not easy, but it’s not an insurmountable challenge either. To be honest, it’s more like work than study in science. There’s a lot of planning, then running of experiments and analysis, and then trying to understand what I see, working out how to solve errors and how to move on. While I’m very lucky to have great supervisors, many PhD students don’t, and that does make it endlessly harder. The hardest part I find is working up the self discipline to do the work myself, and having the confidence to work even if mistakes may be made. But it’s a very useful thing to learn, and being able to work with people from around the world and being in a friendly group helps endlessly!
